GFEI has been working with Ghana since the fuel economy project was launched in the country in 2016. In November 2018 the project conclusions were disseminated at a stakeholder meeting. From the stakeholder meeting, several recommendations were presented to EPA Ghana for incorporation into the Draft Electric Mobility Policy Working Paper.
As a result of this initiative, the Energy Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy rolled out a “Drive Electric Initiative” in October 2019 to promote electric vehicles on Ghana’s roads. The initiative seeks to promote and create demand for electric vehicles with a target of having over 100 electric vehicles and at least 10 public charging outlets in Ghana by 2020.
