Global Environment Fund (GEF) Funding supports GFEI’s next steps
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has awarded GFEI a grant of USD 2.3 million to support 6 more countries (Cote d'Ivoire, Mauritius, Peru, Jamaica, Montenegro and Macedonia) to develop fuel economy policies and to showcase this in their respective regions in order to foster replication and uptake of fuel economy regionally and globally.
This is the second commitment by GEF to the GFEI, having already provided some funding to the GFEI to support 4 pilot country projects (Chile, Kenya, Ethiopia and Indonesia). This support helped to establish the tools needed for countries to be able to develop fuel economy policies. Together, the tools, the lessons learned from the pilot projects, the networks and institutional set-up which GEF has supported, are an invaluable basis to allow GFEI to reach even more countries.
