GFEI launched in Senegal

The Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) launched a national project in Senegal on 3rd November 2017 at the Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique in Dakar.

The ‘Strategies Promoting Cleaner and Efficient Vehicles’ project was launched by Professor Papa Alioune Sarr Ndiaye, the Director of Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique. The Project Manager, Mr. Modou Kane Diao of the Directorate of Road Transport, highlighted how the overriding objective of project is to support the development of national policies to see to a transition to efficient and clean vehicles in Senegal and therefore reduce climate and air pollutant emissions from transport. Towards this end, experts from transport working with stakeholders and regulators in Senegal will provide support to the project team to conduct a basic inventory of the vehicle fleet to establish the state of energy efficiency and trends in Senegal so as to inform policy interventions requirements.

Six talks were presented at meeting covering a range of topics including the quality of fuels consumed in Senegal, pollutant emissions from transport / air quality in Senegal, vehicle importation regulation in Senegal, international trend for pollution reduction from vehicles as well as an introduction of the GFEI.
